Computers are an important library resource
LOAN PERIOD
All Library material except VIDEOS and DVDs may be checked out for two weeks. Videos and DVDs may be checked out for one week. Material may be renewed in person or by phone. New books, best sellers and any items on waiting lists may not be renewed.

Volunteers are also an important resource!
LIBRARY CARDS
LIBRARY CARDS MUST BE USED FOR ALL TRANSACTIONS. All full-member CWMars library cards are accepted at the Ayer Library. Patrons from other communities must have a full-member CWMars library card to check out material from the Ayer Library. NO MATERIALS WILL BE CHECKED OUT UNLESS THE PATRON IS IN POSSESSION OF HIS OWN CWMARS CARD.
Adults (over 18) must show two forms of identification, one with a photo and at least one with current address, to obtain a library card. Children must have a parents signature. A person signing for a library card is responsible for all material checked out on that card. There is a $5.00 non-refundable replacement fee.

Book Discussion Group Meeting
BOOKS ON TAPE, BOOKS ON CD, MUSIC CDs
Patrons may take out a total of four books on tape and/or books on CD at a time for a two week period. A total of four music CDs may be borrowed at a time for a two week period.
VIDEO CASSETTES, DVDS
Four video cassettes may be taken out by a borrower (18 yrs or over) for a one week period. Beginning February 1, 2004, the limit for DVDs will be four per HOUSEHOLD for a one week period and will not be renewable. See our Video and DVD Policy for more information.
THE LIBRARY CARD THAT IS ISSUED TO A JUVENILE (UNDER 18) CAN NOT BE USED TO BORROW VIDEOS OR DVDS FROM THE ADULT COLLECTION.
MAGAZINES
Patrons may take four issues only of back issues. The most current monthly or weekly issue does not circulate. Consumer Reports and National Geographic do not circulate.
REFERENCE BOOKS
Reference materials are available during all hours that the library is open. They do not circulate.

LOCAL HISTORY ROOM
Materials from the LOCAL HISTORY ROOM do not circulate.
Micro fiche does not circulate.
Local History hours are by

MILITARY COLLECTION
Items in the Military Archives published before 1990 are for Library Use Only. There is a limit of two items at a time that may be checked out by any patron.
PLACING BOOKS ON HOLD
Books and other materials may be requested from other libraries in our system and holds can be placed on books that are currently checked out. This can be done for you by a librarian, or you can place your own holds through our catalog. Ask us to show you how! You will be called when your book has arrived.

Books arrive each day for patrons
UNATTENDED CHILDREN
Children under the age of 8 may not be left unattended in the Library. A child is considered unattended if he/she is in the Library without a parent or a responsible adult 18 or older. See our Unattended Children Policy for more information.
OVER DUE FEES
Overdue fees are donated to the Friends of the Ayer Library. Fees must be paid by all patrons who keep materials beyond the loan period except Senior citizens (62 years and up). Fees will apply as follows:
$0.05 per day per item (book, magazine, AC, CD)
$1.00 per day for video cassettes and DVDs
BOOK DROP
The Ayer Library has a book drop located in the front of the building for after hours returns only. Books, videos and other library materials may be dropped in the book drop. The book drop is checked each morning only. Patrons are responsible for returning library materials when due.
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
The Friends of the Library is a citizens organization that provides the library with money for museum passes, programs, books, numerous volunteer services, advocacy, public relations assistance and community involvement. Call the library at (978) 772-8250 for more information.
