Our New Community Read Program

Ayer Library 2026 Community Read

This September we are pleased to launch our new Community Read—a tradition we hope to offer on a yearly basis. This year we invite invite kids and adults to read and reflect on the book Nature’s Best Hope by Doug Tallamy. This book is a call to action, urging people to transform their yards and outdoor spaces into conservation corridors using practical, accessible measures that anyone can explore. 

The Community Read will conclude on Saturday, September 26 at 10 AM—timed to align with Good Neighbor Day—with a gathering and discussion of the book. The Ayer Library has partnered with the Friends of the Ayer Library, PACE (People of Ayer Concerned about the Environment), Grow Native Massachusetts, North County Land Trust, the Town of Ayer’s Conservation Agent, and the Ayer Sustainability Committee to host this conversation, and guests will have a chance to hear from these groups about the work they’re doing to support local conservation efforts. 

The Library will also have a specially curated climate change and sustainability collection available for attendees to browse, crafts for families, and coffee, tea, and refreshments at the September 26 event.
